چکیده

The osmotic properties of bovine erythrocytes aged in vivo were studied by the modified microhematocrit method. The osmotic fragility of older red cells decreases due to their larger relative osmotically non-active volume. Relative critical cell volume of bovine erythrocytes does not alter significantly with cell age. The age dependent change in the osmotic fragility of human red blood cells, the reverse of that found for bovine erythrocytes, is due to a different alteration of the critical cell volume during intravascular erythrocyte aging.

Erythrocyte fragility in hyperthyroid patients

Mild anaemia among patients with hyperthyroidism, reduction in intracranial zinc content of erythrocytes and anti- haemolysis of whole blood of patients with Graves, disease under laboratory Condition are the facts which indicate that although erythrocytes are devoid of receptors for thyroid hormones, they are affected by the excess of these hormones. In order to find out the reasons for suc...

The Molecular Species Composition of Phosphatidyicholine Affects Cellular Properties in Normal and Sickle Erythrocytes

The phosphatidylcholine specific transfer protein (PCTP) from bovine liver was used to retailor the molecular species composition of phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the membrane of normal (AA) and sickleable (SS) human erythrocytes. Changes in molecular species composition of PC altered morphology as well as cellular deformability and stability as measured with ektacytometry. In normal cells. repla...

Effect of Gallic Acid on Reactivation of Acetylcholinesterase and Butyrylcholinesterase Inhibited by Diazinon in Vitro and in Vivo

Background and purpose: Diazinon is an organophosphate insecticide that binds to the acetylcholinesterase enzyme after metabolization causing its inactivation. Galic acid is a polyphenolic compound with nucleophilic properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of gallic acid on reactivation of acetylcholine and butyrylcholinesterase inhibited by diazinon in mice and human se...

Potent radioprotective effect of therapeutic doses of ranitidine and famotidine against gamma-rays induced micronuclei in vivo

Background: Previous investigations have revealed, cimetidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, show radioprotective effects against gamma- and neutron-induced micronuclei in bone marrow erythrocytes. In this study, the anticlastogenic effects of famotidine and ranitidine, which act similar to cimetidine as histamine H2-receptor antagonists, was investigated. Materials and Methods : Balb/c m...

Studies of Human HbAA Erythrocyte Osmotic Fragility Index of Non-Malarious Blood in the Presence of Five Anti-malarial Drugs

Background: The capacity of human HbAA erythrocytes of non-malarious blood to withstand osmotic stress in the presence of five antimalarial drugs, Chloroquine phosphate, Quinine, FansidarTM, CoartemTM and HalfanTM was studied in vitro. Materials and Methods: Aqueous solutions of four increasing concentrations of the drugs used in this investigation were in the order: 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8% (...
